Restaurants can be a hidden risk for celiac patients
Even when a restaurant says "gluten-free" — staff may not know what that truly means. Hidden gluten in sauces, shared fryers, and shared utensils can still cause serious harm.
Talk to the right person
Don't rely on the waiter alone. Ask to speak directly with the chef or kitchen manager — they are the ones preparing your food. Tell them clearly: this is a medical condition, not a preference.
Hand them the card before your meal is prepared
The card tells them exactly what you cannot eat, what cross-contamination means, and what precautions to take — in their language.
